While we expect for-profit business big and small to be on the temporary foreign worker employer list, we were quite surprised to find high-profile not-for-profit organizations there. One name that really stands out is, AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL Canadian Section (English Speaking), who last year received a staggering $10 million in donations.
One of their key campaigning issues is Business and Human Rights, where they proclaim that:
Economic players, especially trans-national companies, have gained unprecedented power and influence across the world’s economies. This has not always benefited the societies in which they operate.
The vast majority of Canadians believe that the TFW program has not benefited the societies in which the employers operate in. The public may view it as somewhat hypocritical that Amnesty is actively engaged in the same practice.
